(it seems most likely that he travelled to NZ with wife Agnes after their marriage in Ballarat in 1860. Agnes' death certificate states that she spent 1 year in NZ and 6 months in NSW. Did they go there together after the marriage with Agnes coming back via NSW to Victoria afterwards?).

William married in Auckland in 1877at Vincent Street which intersects with Cook Street. There are two William Hales in the rolls 1853-1871but the other is a carter at Wakefield Street a bit furthe away and who also appears on the 1856 roll in Auckland. The Cook Street William only appears in 1863 and 1871.

He worked as a Galvanized Iron Worker in 1877. 12
